Our interactive exhibit opens Nov 7, Wed, 7-9pm!

The Thursdays Writing Collective, the Lobby Gallery and the Transitional Justice Network at the Liu Institute for Global Issues present an exhibition on the theme of social justice and empowerment through writing, celebrating the work and creativity of the Thursdays Writing Collective.

Opening: Wed Nov 7, 2012, 7-9pm at UBC’s Liu Institute for Global Issues Lobby Gallery

6476 NW Marine Drive, across from the Museum of Anthropology

Join us for the opening, which includes a short, laughter-filled, interactive event for anyone curious about the intersection of creativity and public policy. We’ll share off-the-cuff responses to fast writing prompts on accessibility and housing and invite participants and visitors to leave their textual responses on display at the Lobby Gallery as an artifact of the community created through this writing encounter.

All are welcome (age 19+). Light refreshments to be served.

FREE TRANSPORTATION for DTES Residents. You MUST SIGN UP AT CARNEGIE to be on the bus. We leave at 6pm from Carnegie and return by 10pm.

The exhibition runs from November 7th to December 7th 2012 (M-F: 8am to 5pm)

The exhibition includes the group’s published anthologies, collaborative projects, photos and videos and a 20-minute digital film project. At the opening on November 7th, Thursdays Writing Collective director Elee Kraljii Gardiner will lead a short social writing encounter themed on the issues of social justice and accessibility.

The Collective, running since 2008, is comprised of activists, academics, slam poets, novelists and storytellers and includes 150 writers who explore issues of self-determination through their work.

The Liu Institute is located across the street from the Museum of Anthropology. Here is a map.
