This spring we continue to write about communication with hopes of publishing our 7th book, “Lettering”, this June. Today we wrote about a 900 year old Viking rune that was says in part, “kiss me.”

We also read this letter from cartoonist Al Capp to a fan, who like Capp, had a leg amputated. We did this writing prompt in pairs continuing the exchange.

But the most moving pieces today were written off a telegram sent to US President Roosevelt on behalf of 36 authors protesting the war. This elicited powerful responses about social justice, testimony and the power of the witness. Some writers used the form of the telegram to respond. The command “stop,” while not seen in the original text was enacted by more than one writer to great effect.
