Summer

The summer lull is a strange time – we break the habit of writing together and turn towards other new rhythms. For those of us who don’t use computers or phones, it can be hard to stay in touch unless we happen to bump into each other. Sometimes summer can restore our energy for writing; other times we go half mad missing the group discipline.

Next week on July 31, a Thursday, of course, we reunite for a reading with Clint Burnham at Vancouver’s Mt Pleasant Library. Some of our textual responses to Clint’s letter to us are physically manipulated – folded, coloured, scissored – pieces of text. I’m not sure how we’ll display them but we will invite the authors to the mic to explain or talk about them.

This last Postal Code Reading for Lettering is also a chance for us to share the Indiegogo crowd sourcing video that Rowboat Creative has made for us. We are raising funds to publish our next book and we’ll show the video on July 31. It will be fun to see the reactions of participants who are in it!

Mt Pleasant Library is located at 1 Kingsway (at Main in the Community Centre)

The reading begins at 7pm. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome to this free, accessible event.
