Writing Events and Workshops for DTES writers Sep 29-30

Word on the Street Festival is happening on the weekend of September 29-30 and we are very excited for this second year of programming at Carnegie Community Centre.

The first day of events at Carnegie includes a reading from V6A with Wayde Compton, Lora McElhinney and Rachel Rose from 3:3:20 in the Theatre. Other events include a workshop on how to give a live reading from 5:15 – 6:45 with Hal Wake, a poetry workshop on climate change and ecology concerns with the amazing activist/writer Christine Leclerc, and the Type Up- a way for residents to have handwritten papers typed up by volunteers. Last year’s chapbook making workshop with Mercedes Eng was the talk of last year’s festival and it will be offered again. The night ends with an open mic event.

The details with fuller descriptions and instructions about where to sign up (most events are limited in the number of participants with sign up sheets in the Carnegie office) are here in the Program Guide.

On Sunday at the Main Public Library site of the Festival Muriel Marjorie, John Barry and Anne Hopkinson will be doing a reading from V6A at 11 at the Canada Writes tent.
